Purpose

ESN requires a new professional who supports the organisation in its development across all levels, with an eye towards the future, ready to support the organisation to succeed and wanting to make tangible changes.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and driving ESN’s fundraising strategy to secure and manage additional income from a diverse range of stakeholders. ESN already works with the EU and national governments; this is an opportunity to expand this significantly to include multi-donors (e.g. international institutions like the EU -current departments with whom we already work and others), and large trusts and foundations, private companies and others. A confident individual that identifies opportunities, initiates and develops relationships with key funders, partners, and drafts proposals.

Key responsibilities

  • Researching and identifying fundraising opportunities;
  • Building relationships with major donors or companies;
  • Writing successful grant applications in coordination with CEO and policy coordinator;
  • Raising awareness of the organisation’s work;
  • Preparing and delivering presentations to potential donors and partners;
  • Developing and organising fundraising campaigns and events in coordination with the communications and policy teams;
  • Managing information and recording the profile and fundraising activity of donors on a database;
  • Managing budget and ensuring targets are met;
  • Liaising with donors ensuring they are informed of progress and key milestones.

Specific responsibilities on strategy development, management, and communication

  • Development:
    • Develop and implement ESN’s fundraising strategy with targets, timeline, income increasing proposals submission, increasing and cultivating institutional and corporate donors and foundation giving;
    • Grow and sustain income in line with ESN’s fundraising strategy;
    • Build strong, effective working relationships with potential donors;
    • Plan and coordinate funding approaches, working closely with the CEO, and where necessary policy coordinator and finance manager;
    • Work closely with operations/policy officers and other related functions to ensure understanding of any implications of funding applications;
    • Remain abreast of donor trends and share knowledge as appropriate across the organisation;
    • Research and identify fundraising opportunities and engage with organisations for potential membership, partnership, activities for development and funds generation.
  • Management:
    • Maintain and update database/system for maintaining all relevant contacts, information and deadlines for each grant award and new fundraising opportunities;
    • Lead on new/additional partner/donor agreement negotiations and compliance;
    • Ensure monitoring of procedures for agreements;
    • Lead on the development of annual income and expenditure forecast for fundraising;
    • Ensure budget management and reporting requirements are met according to deadlines;
    • Work with and support partners with project implementation duties;
    • Produce internal reports (monthly) and conduct reviews (quarterly) on the performance and progress of fundraising against agreed targets, activities and annual objectives.
  • Communication:
    • Where necessary, ensure relevant team members are briefed on the terms and conditions of agreements, including deadlines;
    • Develop fundraising activities;
    • Design, produce and promote promotional materials to increase awareness of the organisation's work, goals, and needs in coordination with the communications team;
    • Establish positive relationships with potential donors;
    • Represent ESN at relevant forums.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required

  • Demonstrated successful development experience and fundraising planning;
  • Demonstrated grant writing experience;
  • Demonstrated record of winning grant applications;
  • Demonstrated budget management and financial reporting ability;
  • Organisational Planning;
  • Institutional/Corporate Fundraising;
  • CRM systems;
  • Research skills;
  • People management abilities;
  • Near-native verbal and written communication skills in English;
  • Keen interest in, and commitment to public social services.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in public administration, project management, business or similar;
  • Three to five years’ experience in fundraising or project winning;
  • Prior experience in similar areas such as sales or project development and implementation.

Salary and Conditions

  • Possibility to work part-time or full-time;
  • Possibility to work partly remotely;
  • Salary starting at 3,650€ gross per month (pro rata if part-time);
