Job Description

The European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) is an operational EU Agency that provides safe and secure European satellite navigation services, promotes the commercialization of Galileo, EGNOS, and Copernicus data and services. It also coordinates the EU’s forthcoming governmental satellite communications programme GOVSATCOM. The current vacancy is for an opportunity in the Galileo Exploitation Programme Department which, in coordination with other departments of the Agency, ensures the continuous provision of the services provided by Galileo. The department develops new Galileo services enabling new applications and ensures the proper management, operation, maintenance, continuous improvement, evolution and protection of the space-based and ground-based infrastructure. It also manages the consistency between technical, planning, financial and risk aspects of all the Galileo exploitation activities and elaborates and maintains the Galileo Exploitation Plans.

The position will be situated at the Agency’s headquarters in the heart of Europe – Prague – with excellent connection to numerous major European cities. The capital of the Czech Republic, in the banks of the Vltava River, is famous for its cultural life, renowned musical life, historic buildings, magical bridges, and recognized museums and monuments. 

Qualifications We Are Looking For

The Galileo Service Provision Engineer will be tasked with contributing to the fulfilment of the Agency’s duties related to the provision of the Galileo Services, and the preparation of the service provision activities required for the introduction of new and/or evolved Galileo Services. This requires to be involved notably in the monitoring of the provision of the current services, and in the coordination of the evolutions of the service provision activities (and associated processes and interfaces) at the GNSS Service Centre (GSC), the Galileo Control Centres (GCCs) and the Galileo Security Monitoring Centres (GSMCs).

This role covers the Galileo Services for the System in Operations for both G1G and G2G. The jobholder will have the following main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Participate in the day-to-day coordination of Galileo Service Provision as part of the Operations Performance and User Support team;
  • Monitor the provision of the current Galileo Services, supporting the assessment of the associated Key Performance Indicators;
  • Contribute to the implementation of new and evolved Galileo Services for what concerns the operations and service provision aspects;
  • Participate in service reviews, contribution to the definition and update of service and operations processes and procedures, support the definition of the required infrastructure changes and establishment of service level targets;
  • Ensure the timely readiness and adequacy of the Service Provision inputs and contributions for the preparation and roll-out of new and/or evolved Galileo Services, including monitoring and managing the implementation of associated changes;
  • Contribute to the technical management of the Galileo Operations contract managed by the Agency, in particular for what concerns the impact on service provisions of new and/or evolved Galileo Services;
  • Participate to project infrastructure and operational boards, reviews and meetings, in particular for what concerns the topics related to new and/or evolved Galileo Services, including document review and organising / chairing when required;
  • Liaise with other departments, notably in the area of Administration, to ensure the execution of related corporate tasks, such as planning, reporting, administration, financial & budget management, risk management.

Missions to the other Agency sites (GSC in Spain, GRC in The Netherlands, GSMCs in France and Spain), Galileo Control Centre (in Oberpfaffenhofen and Fucino) and occasional travels to the European Commission in Brussels (Belgium) are foreseen for this post.

Recruitment Process

The selection procedure is open to applicants who satisfy the following eligibility criteria, on the closing date for application:

  1. A level of education which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma when the normal period of university education is four years or more
    OR
    A level of education which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma and at least one year of appropriate professional experience when the normal period of university education is three years
  2. In addition to the above, appropriate professional experience of at least six years after obtaining the required diploma
  3. Be a national of a Member State of the European Union, Iceland or Norway
  4. Be entitled to his or her full rights as a citizen
  5. Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws concerning military service
  6. Meet the character requirements for the duties involved
  7. Have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the European Union and a satisfactory knowledge of another language of the European Union to the extent necessary for the performance of his/her duties
  8. Be physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post
