About ELF and the Policy and Research Unit
The European Liberal Forum (ELF) is the think tank and political foundation of the ALDE party. Together with over 45 member organizations in more than 25 European countries, we set up policy-oriented research and capacity-building projects throughout the continent. The Policy and Research Unit (PRU) of the European Liberal Forum is searching for a dynamic and versatile young professional with excellent writing, editing, and research skills and a passion for liberal ideas and EU policies. As a Junior Policy and Research Officer, you will learn what it takes to manage policy-oriented research projects within a network of think tanks and political foundations that contribute to building a democratic and liberal Europe.

What will be your role?

The Junior Policy and Research Officer will be fully involved in the daily activities of the Unit. The PRU works closely with the Project Unit and Communications Unit to ensure the timely realisation and effective promotion of research-related outputs and other activities. The Junior Officer will pursue their own research, become an expert in their field, and support ELF publications, policy-related working groups, and other events.

More specifically, the Junior Policy and Research Officer will:

  • Monitor policy developments on both national and EU levels;
  • Identify and develop topics for research and policy initiatives;
  • Conduct research on specific policy developments at the EU level in one of the research areas of the PRU, namely:
    • Sustainable Economy and Social Policy
    • Foreign Affairs, Neighbourhood, and Enlargement
    • Digitalisation, Cybersecurity and New Tech
    • EU Institutions, Democracy, and Justice Affairs
    • Social and Political Cleavages Post-Covid
  • Coordinate, review and support the publications of ELF member organisations and affiliated experts, and ensure that research output is in accordance with academic standards;
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of networks within the policymaking and the academic communities;
  • Organise events, conferences, and other meetings on behalf of ELF;
  • Contribute to the implementation of secretariat projects led by the PRU.

Job requirements

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has at least a Master's degree; Ph.D. candidacy or recent Ph.D. graduation an advantage, but not required;
  • Has good research and writing skills; a track record of academic or policy-oriented publications an advantage;
  • Has excellent spoken and written English skills; this is a must, and any knowledge of additional European languages, would be appreciated;
  • Can take responsibility for ongoing activities while being flexible enough to take up unplanned new tasks;
  • Can work independently, show initiative, and a problem-solving attitude;
  • Can handle interpersonal and intercultural relations;
  • Has an affinity for classical liberal ideas.
