Background on SolarPower Europe

SolarPower Europe is a member-led association representing the European solar PV sector. SolarPower Europe’s aim is to ensure that more energy is generated by solar than any other energy source by 2030 and lead our members to make solar the core of a smart, sustainable and inclusive energy system. We are an award-winning association and have over 200 members spanning 35 countries. We aim to produce thought-leading energy market analysis and support the business of our members through creative and successful advocacy campaigns.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented person to assist in our Policy Department. The Policy and Advocacy unit monitors the development of European and national solar-related policies and prepares and develops SolarPower Europe’s positions in close coordination with our members. The Policy and Advocacy unit is also in charge of the preparation and coordination of the work of SolarPower Europe’s topic-specific workstreams. The goal of this internship is to gain experience and knowledge on European policy-making processes while supporting the activities of this unit.

Job description:

The Policy Intern will assist the Policy Advisor to:

  • Monitor the development of EU and national policies, including coordinating the development of the Weekly Policy Update and supporting the update to the internal Solar Map of SolarPower Europe;
  • Support the advocacy activities of SolarPower Europe, by analysing key regulatory files especially with regards to industrial policy, the potential of buildings for on-site solar and agrisolar
  • Preparing position papers with SolarPower Europe’s membership and supporting the advocacy actions of the secretariat;
  • Coordinate meetings and prepare briefing notes, presentations and relevant materials in relation to various topics related to solar;
  • Organize policy webinars on topics of interests for SolarPower Europe members and in connection with the SolarPower Europe advocacy strategy
  • Support the team in creating, maintaining and extending a strong network in the EU and regulation in the field of renewable energy;
  • Contribute to the content of SolarPower Europe’s communication channels such as the newsletter, social media, website;
  • Contribute to SolarPower Europe’s business development and member recruitment and retention; and
  • Organise webinars in collaboration with the SolarPower Europe events team;
  • Performing any other tasks or duties required as applicable.

Profile:

  • A university degree in a relevant discipline such as International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Renewable Energy or similar;
  • Demonstrated interest or work experience in the field of EU policy, ideally in the field of renewable energy, in the form of previous internships, traineeships, volunteering experience etc. is an asset;
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written expression skills, as well as good project management and coordination skills;
  • Good networking skills; and
  • Fluency in English and another European language is an asset.
