Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, is both the forum and voice of the European chemical industry. It aims to maintain and develop a prosperous chemical industry in Europe by promoting the best possible economic, social and environmental conditions to bring benefits to society.

The chemical industry is a € 500+ billion industry, providing over 1 million direct jobs and nearly 2.5 million indirect jobs in Europe. The chemical industry is the “Industry of Things”. The industry's products are essential to 95% of everything manufactured: hygiene, health, mobility, construction, computers and electronics all rely on the chemical industry. The sector is also critical to meeting future needs, such as developing energy sources or managing scarce resources. The chemical industry is essential for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Cefic is located in Brussels to represent the industry vis‐à‐vis EU institutions and involve member federations and companies in European advocacy. We employ more than 160 people.

For its Product Stewardship department, Cefic is looking to reinforce its REACH regulatory expertise by hiring a (m/f) REACH Manager.

Mission:

In this role, you will be responsible for driving, coordinating and managing Cefic’s activities related to the EU REACH regulation, focusing primarily (but not only) on registration and evaluation aspects.

You will be responsible for developing and steering technical and advocacy strategies and/or programs to address regulatory developments, whilst integrating general legal and political boundaries as well as those of Cefic’s member companies. This being done with the support of Cefic Experts, members-staffed issue teams and networks of experts (working groups).

You report to the Director REACH & Chemical Policy.

Are you inspired by these responsibilities?

You will:

  • Monitor technical and regulatory developments related to REACH and related to these develop position papers, input to consultations, feedback to CARACAL and advocacy strategies;
  • Steer and support expert groups in these subject matters;
  • Advise Cefic member companies on regulatory developments;
  • Advise the Director and provide input to the Cefic Leadership Team and Program Councils;
  • Manage the Cefic Action Plan on REACH dossier improvement and the associated Cefic-ECHA cooperation agreement, including the organisation of workshops with members and regulators;
  • Frequently interact with authorities representing the interests of the European Chemical Industry;
  • Represent Cefic and the European Chemical industry in Expert Committees, and in the relevant external conferences and workshops attended by regulators;
  • Liaise with Cefic Sector Groups, other industry associations and stakeholders.

Can you make the difference?

The successful candidate will be an experienced professional who demonstrates the following experience and competencies:

  • Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, (eco)toxicology or similar;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience within the chemical industry or another European association;
  • Strong proven understanding of the EU REACH regulation;
  • Experience in regulatory affairs is a must; hands-on experience with REACH processes is definite an asset;
  • In-depth understanding of the functioning of the European Chemical Agency;
  • Excellent communication and (re)presentation skills, including the ability to translate technical information into layman language;
  • Strong project manager, results oriented and able to work under pressure and to prioritize while managing multiple tasks;
  • Full professional proficiency in English (written and oral) additional European languages are a definite asset;
  • Demonstrated skills in presenting and fostering consensus at multiple management levels, internally and externally;
  • Ability to work independently and objectively;
  • Good project management and IT skills.

  • Team player, open to a multicultural environment;
  • Willing to travel occasionally across Europe (notably Helsinki);
