Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, is both the forum and voice of the European chemical industry. It aims to maintain and develop a prosperous chemical industry in Europe by promoting the best possible economic, social and environmental conditions to bring benefits to society.

The European Chemical Industry Council, has a rolling programme of internships for communication/public affairs students reaching the end of their studies. Cefic is the largest European trade group in Brussels and offers valuable and rewarding work experience in a welcoming, stimulating multicultural and international environment.

To support the Advocacy team, Cefic is looking for a (M/F/D) Public Affairs Intern.

Purpose:

To acquire key advocacy skills relevant to the daily Cefic PA work in Brussels and at European level.

Tasks include:  

  • Legislative Research and Political analysis for Cefic priority issues;
  • Draft briefings/summaries on new legislative and regulatory developments;
  • Attend and report on stakeholder events and institutional meetings;
  • Contributing to the preparations of Cefic Policy Breakfast, a daily monitoring service for the Cefic membership;
  • Support Cefic’s Public Affairs team in producing stakeholder mappings and Briefing Notes.

The intern will work with colleagues in Cefic’s Public Affairs team. The extent of their responsibilities and autonomy will depend on their capacity to take initiatives and manage projects, as well as their skills, areas of specialization and previous experience, if any.

Core competencies:

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual who demonstrates the following experience and competencies:

  • Knowledge of European Institutions;
  • Understanding of legal, public affairs and government relations;
  • Ability to synthesize and translate complex issues into clear and concise messages;
  • Recognises the need to react to EU politicians requests in a timely and helpful manner;
  • Is familiar with MS Office web management systems and related internet tools.

Requirements:

  • Excellent spoken and written English;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a self-starter;
  • Flexible - ready and available when needed to tackle urgent requests;
  • Strongly motivated and to exercise initiative;
  • Enjoys working in a multicultural team;
  • Very well organised, and able to work under strict deadlines with the ability to set priorities;
  • Strong analytical skills.
