About EFPIA:

The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) represents the pharmaceutical industry operating in Europe. Through its direct membership of 36 national associations and 39 leading pharmaceutical companies, and in collaboration with health and research players, EFPIA’s mission is to create an environment that enables our members to discover, innovate, develop and deliver new therapies and vaccines for people across Europe, as well as contribute to the European economy.  

We have a small but dynamic International Affairs team working on; among other things, key emerging markets such as China, Russia, Turkey and Japan and EU Free Trade Agreements, including EU-UK and EU-US relations. We are looking for extra support from a reliable and motivated intern with a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of EU trade policy, EU health policy, EU institutional processes and a highly proficient level of English. Previous internship in EU institutions is a plus.

Role & Responsibilities:

The intern supports the EFPIA International Affairs team members in achieving the team’s objectives. This involves supporting the team in dealing with all trade related work, help prepare for external meetings and co-organise (external) events of the International Affairs team. It also means supporting the day-to-day processes of the team, including weekly team meetings, and coordination calls with members and sister associations. The intern directly supports the team members responsible for research project and stakeholder outreach. The intern reports to the Executive Director International Affairs of EFPIA. Tasks include:

  • Provide broad support for the International Affairs team in its work on priority markets and dossiers.
  • Help address non-priority EU FTA or other non-priority market work.
  • Co-organise the International Affairs team outreach events – and help prepare senior management.
  • Support team members in charge of research projects.
  • Continuously make links between and compare developments in different markets to leverage EFPIA positions globally, draw lessons, see best (and worst) practices and share them with the team.
  • Continuously gather intelligence in priority markets and on priority dossiers that is relevant for EFPIA positions and that allow EFPIA to be pro-active in its work.
  • Support the day-to-day processes of the team, including regular meetings and coordination calls.
  • Support the Executive Director International Affairs on an ad hoc basis.

Candidate Profile:

  • University bachelor or master’s degree in e.g. (health) economics, health policy, European affairs EU law or trade law, international relations.
  • Understanding of the European Union, European policy-making, and trade policy. Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and/or specific thematic areas like intellectual property, regulatory issues, healthcare systems, and pricing and reimbursement are a plus.
  • Fluency in oral and written English with experience in drafting papers/memos and in creating public presentations.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office software package.

Skills:

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Action-driven and result-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.

Terms and conditions

You will be offered a professional integration agreement (immersion professional) for max 6 months. You must not have already completed a 12 Month ‘immersion professionnelle’ or have been in full time professional employment yet. Working hours are from 09:00 until 18:00 Monday to Friday with a one-hour break for lunch. The intern will be entitled to 6 days holiday plus national bank holidays.
