European Aluminium is an industry association representing the full aluminium value chain. It represents over 100 members, including primary aluminium producers, downstream manufacturers of extruded, rolled and cast aluminium, producers of recycled aluminium and national aluminium associations, representing more than 600 plants in 30 European countries.

Aluminium is an indispensable part of modern society being essential for many of the clean technologies needed to deliver the EU green transition, from solar renewable power to alternative fuel cells and hydrogen production to high-voltage cables and batteries. Because of the EU green transition alone, its demand is set to rise massively in the years to come, primarily due to the growth in electric vehicles, solar and wind power, and electricity networks. Our industry is committed to fostering change to accelerate the transition towards a Net-Zero economy, in line with the European Green Deal objectives.

Description

Reporting to the Senior Public Affairs Manager, the Public Affairs & Communications Assistant will support the activities of the Public Affairs & Communications department (PACOM). These include:

Tasks 

  • Provide regular political intelligence to colleagues by monitoring of relevant information sources (media, EU websites, social media) and attending events on key policy dossiers across all policy areas we are active on;
  • Support the Senior Public Affairs Manager and the whole PACOM team in their advocacy activities, these include draft briefings and policy papers, set up meetings, etc.;
  • Support in updating the association policy work program;
  • Support in organising internal and external meetings;
  • Support in preparing Power Point presentations;
  • Supporting in the organisation of policy debates and events;
  • Participate in internal and external meetings and draft minutes;
  • Be responsible for our members’ internal newsletters;
  • Support communication activities (e.g. prepare content for social media channels, updating the website, etc.)

Experience and skills

  • Background in EU Affairs/International Relations or similar; 
  • Strong knowledge of EU policy and decision-making process;
  • Excellent oral, writing and communication skills in English;
  • Willingness and ability to work on a range of different issues;
  • Self-starter and able to work independently, organised and with great attention to details and ability to keep deadlines;
  • Knowledge of how to find information quickly and efficiently. Familiar with the EU, media and monitoring sites;
  • Previous experience in EU institutions/ consultancy / other associations is a plus;
  • Good computer literacy knowledge (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.);
  • Experience in updating social media profiles (LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube) and websites. Mailchimp, WordPress and Canva experience is a plus.
