Greenpeace is recruiting a CREATIVE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER based at our European unit in Brussels
We’re looking for a new colleague who can help develop creative communications to push for political change in Europe that safeguards the planet’s life support systems. You understand the power of disruptive, creative campaigning and are committed to help build a greener and fairer future. You can spot opportunities to expose greenwashing, greed and corporate influence, and promote a deeper understanding of our connection to nature.
You’re a skilled writer with a creative spark, who’s equally at ease working with the media, artists and campaigners. You can engage creatively across multiple online and offline platforms, drawing on the power of language, images and artistic impact in campaigning. You are positive, flexible and have a strong sense of initiative.
If this sounds like you, then please read on!
Main purpose of the job:
Help develop a new style of creative interventions, at the crossroads of communications, politics and campaigning, to challenge and inspire Brussels EU audiences and advance Greenpeace campaign goals, while boosting the resources of the media team.
Deadline for applications: 23:59 CEST, Sunday 20 August 2023.
What we offer:
- Work within a dynamic and successful international campaigning organisation committed to transformational change;
- Experience a stimulating political campaigning environment, expand your skills and knowledge, and put your stamp on the creative development of Greenpeace communications at the EU-level;
- Join a friendly and supportive team in our European office in Brussels, and work with a network of colleagues and offices across the world;
- Actively contribute to the protection of nature and to political change in Europe;
- Flexible working: while the post is ordinarily in the office in Brussels, we currently allow part-time teleworking;
- €4,398.77-€4,627.23 monthly gross salary (we normally offer a starting salary at the beginning of the range), plus benefits (pension scheme, health insurance, meal vouchers, transport allowance, extra paid holidays, etc.).
Profile:
- You have at least three years of solid experience in a relevant role in communications, marketing, journalism or campaigning. You have used creative communications effectively in a campaign context, even if you do not work for a campaigning organisation. You have skills and experience in the visual arts, graphic design, advertising, live performance or other creative fields;
- You have an understanding of how creative interventions like images, humour and art can influence mindsets and open new perspectives in political and campaigning contexts;
- You have great written English, and speak at least one other European language;
- You are political, follow the public conversation, and know what major environmental issues are at stake and what Greenpeace stands for;
- You understand how to harness the potential of social media;
- Committed to radical change that challenges the root causes of overconsumption, exploitation and the destruction of the natural systems that sustain all life;
- A team player with a positive, open attitude who is flexible and happy to help out;
- High level of initiative and a lively imagination. Able to seize political and communication opportunities;
- Stress-resilient and able to prioritise competing demands to deliver high quality work on time.
Main skills and tasks:
- Able to develop and implement media and communication strategies for our campaigns in Europe – including the development of media, social media, and creative campaign content and interventions – within a challenging political and campaigning context;
- Artistic or creative abilities, particularly for visual media (e.g. drawing, graphic design, video editing, etc.) that can be applied to campaigning;
- Lively, clear and precise writing, which you can adapt to any online or offline channel, from biting billboard slogans to punchy press releases and cheeky tweets;
- A good networker who is able to establish and maintain relationships with partner NGOs, creative contractors, media, and inside the global Greenpeace organisation;
- Can collaborate with colleagues within the office and in our network across Europe to ensure the greatest possible impact of Greenpeace campaigns with EU political audiences;
- Able to help manage the organisation’s social media accounts;
- Some experience with event management is desirable;
- Happy to carry out regular administrative tasks.
