Did you know that Transport & Environment has shaped some of Europe’s most important environmental laws? In recent years, T&E got the EU to set the world's most ambitious CO2 standards for cars and trucks but also helped uncover the dieselgate scandal. We secured a global ban on dirty shipping fuels and the creation of the world's biggest carbon market for aviation - just to name a few. Are you interested in standing alongside T&E colleagues, campaigning with us as we step into the world of corporate travel? We’re looking to hire an experienced campaigner to lead our work targeting a reduction in corporate travel post-Covid.

Established in 1990, T&E is the European Federation of environmental NGOs working on sustainable transport. T&E’s vision is a zero-emission mobility system that is affordable and has minimal impacts on our health, climate and environment. Credibility is a key asset. A politically independent non-profit, T&E combines the power of robust, science-based evidence and a deep understanding of transport with memorable communications and impactful advocacy.

Staff in Brussels, Rome, Madrid, Berlin, Warsaw, Paris and London collaborate with 62 national member and supporter organisations in 25 countries across Europe. All together members and supporters represent more than 3.5 million people. As an organisation we are committed to the professional development of our colleagues and invest in training from their first day with the organisation.

The aim of this work is to implement our strategy to mobilise employers and campaigners in efforts to reduce the level of corporate travel, and therefore the resulting emissions, post-Covid. It is to “lock in” much of the reduction in flying which occurred during this period. It is part of T&E’s wider programme to reduce emissions from aviation, which remains the most carbon intensive mode of transport.

T&E offers the chance to help shape policies with huge implications for democracy, people and the environment in Europe and across the globe as well as a competitive salary with a substantial package of benefits. The role offers flexibility of location but would benefit from being Brussels located.

Primary responsibilities

  • Implement T&E’s campaign to reduce corporate travel post-Covid, define specific action plans and targets, manage budget and staff, and define an organisational structure to achieve these goals;
  • Commission research and analysis needed to support this campaign, including research on corporate travel demand, employee preferences, frequent flyer programmes and public sector travel policy;
  • Develop a series of clear demands for all actors in the corporate travel sphere, including public and private sector;
  • Spotting political and media opportunities to drive forward this campaign, including identifying new partners to work with, new approaches and innovative means to communicate;
  • Develop monitoring and tracking tools to assess and quantify changes in corporate travel policy;
  • Define and create the right coalition(s) to bring forward this campaign, in a rapid space of time;
  • Assess the possibility to launch campaigns at national level, and work with similar campaigns outside of Europe;
  • Oversee campaign budget, including funder reporting.

Candidate requirements

  • At least 5 years to 10 years of experience in communications, campaign management or advocacy at EU or national level. Experience in climate and environmental policy is an advantage but not essential;
  • Research focused with a good eye for detail and able to commission research. Strong ability to extrapolate information, critically evaluate and strategically set priorities;
  • Proven experience in building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders internally and externally including remote staff;
  • Ability to start projects “from scratch”, and identify opportunities and challenges in advance;
  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English, other European languages would be an asset;
  • Experience in fundraising and managing funder relations;
  • Experience in budget management, managing staff and coordinating, motivating, and coaching a small team.
