Job Objective

The European Cancer Organisation is looking for an ambitious, energetic and enthusiastic Intern to join our Policy and advocacy team in Brussels. The successful candidate will be supporting the team on policy, monitoring and lobbying activity during an exciting period for EU cancer policy in the context of the developing EU Cancer Mission and European Beating Cancer Plan. The working language at European Cancer Organisation is English.

Main Responsibilities

Monitoring:

The intern will be responsible for helping the European Cancer Organisation keep track of all relevant political and regulatory developments of impact to the cancer community. Sources of such developments include the European Commission, European Parliament, EU agencies, other primary stakeholder organisations, and international bodies such as WHO and IARC. The intern will need to read, digest, and neatly summarise developments in order that persons within the European Cancer Organisation, and its membership and community, can be rapidly and concisely informed.

Stakeholder management and policy event work:

The intern will assist in the continual development of the European Cancer Organisation’s stakeholder databases and in the planning and organising of high impact policy events. This will include provision of support to the Networks of the European Cancer Organisation.

Project management and research activity:

During the internship period, the intern will be delegated responsibilities in respect to both delivery of the European Cancer Organisation project milestones as well as bespoke research requests.

Description of the Relationships

  • Report to the CEO with regular direction from the EU Affairs Policy Manager;
  • Close Collaboration with the Communication and Community and Operations and Projects Teams.

Skill Specifications

The role requires:

  • High degree of proficiency in writing in English, especially for formal audiences (e.g. meeting reports, minutes, briefings);
  • Background and understanding of the European Union political landscape;
  • Background and understanding of EU health policy;
  • Ability to work independently, think critically and have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to coordinate tasks and work well with other people. All applicants must be team players;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage competing deadlines;
  • Ability to absorb information and learn quickly;
  • Interest and passion for improving the quality of cancer care in Europe.

Profile & Experience

  • Some previous experience in either EU affairs and/or health policy is desirable;
  • Computer and internet literate;
  • Educational qualifications and/or prior experience relating to policy and advocacy and adequate knowledge of one or two more languages are considered assets.
