Clinical Psychologist – European Asylum Support Office (Malta, IPA,EASO HQ, AWAS Centers)

MGR Human Resources Ltd is a leading, licensed private employment agency and a member of MAP S.Platis Group. We are looking to hire a Clinical Psychologist for the European Asylum Support Office to be based in Malta, IPA, EASO HQ and AWAS Centers.

The position

The successful candidate will work on a secondment basis for the awarded contract for the Provision of Interim Services to the European Asylum Support Office (EASO). EASO is an EU Regulatory Agency headquartered in Malta whose mandate is to strengthen EU Member States’ practical cooperation on asylum, to support Member States whose asylum systems are under particular pressure and to enhance the implementation of the Common European Asylum System.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected, amongst other, to perform some or all of the following tasks:

Psychosocial support to personnel:

  • Identify/develop and implement appropriate psychoeducation related to personnel care, wellbeing, stress management, trauma, work-life balance, and resilience. Ensure that all personnel, particularly managers and coordinators, recognize the signs and symptoms of stress, burnout and vicarious trauma
  • Ensure that personnel being stationed in high-stress environments are provided with pre-assignment assessment and counseling, periodical follow ups, and post-assignment counseling, as well as appropriate tools for promoting personal resilience
  • Provide individual counselling to staff as needed
  • Provide timely interventions for staff involved in critical incidents
  • Provide consistent group counseling for personnel who, in the course of duty, are regularly exposed to high levels of traumatic content
  • Provide group interventions pertaining to team building, effective communication etc.
  • Identify/ build and communicate referral pathways for staff who require additional support

Needs assessment, monitoring and evaluation, consulting:

  • Utilize methods to assess the stress level and support needs of staff and develop appropriate interventions
  • Provide consultation to management on how to better minimize personnel care risks on the organizational level
  • Regularly review the agency’s personnel care approach according to needs and best practices
  • Provide management with information on the numbers and usage of psychosocial services, as well as general emerging themes
  • Liaise with psychologists and relevant colleagues working in the same field in other EASO operations as necessary

Requirements

  • University degree in Psychology. Masters in a relevant field (clinical or counseling, organizational, humanitarian, community or other) is preferred
  • License to practice as a psychologist in Malta
  • 3 years of professional experience in the field of humanitarian psychology and/or trauma-related psychology, preferably providing counselling to aid workers or asylum caseworkers
  • Previous work experience in reception camps, informal settlements and other operational settings characterized by significant levels of environmental stress is preferred
  • Knowledge and/or professional experience in the identification and treatment of burnout and traumatic stress
  • Fluency in English. Must be able to provide psychological interventions in English to a multicultural team
  • Good command of MS Office (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Intercultural awareness
  • Skills in public speaking and presenting to groups
  • Awareness of issues pertaining to challenging work environments and humanitarian settings (ex. harassment, mobbing, discrimination, SGBV)

Remuneration

The position falls in hierarchical Category IV and the associated salary is €38,985.12 gross annually in twelve monthly installments.
