The Opportunity

Save the Children International is currently recruiting for a very exciting ECHO EU Donor Relations trainee for a 12 -month contract, consisting of 6-months in the Brussels office, and 6-months in a relevant Save the Children field office.

We aim to provide trainees with an opportunity to gain experience in a leading international NGO, learn more about ECHO fundraising, and obtain skills in donor information management, contract monitoring and rules/regulations of ECHO.

In Brussels: The trainee will provide support as per key areas of responsibility to the EU Donor Relations Team. The team’s goal is to ensure that Save the Children capitalises on donor funding opportunities that are consistent with our strategic and thematic priorities; and also to ensure Save the Children engages in efforts to inform and influence donor policies and investment priorities, as appropriate.

In the field (tbc): The specific country or region for this part of the posting will be decided during the first half of the traineeship and will be based on specific capacity needs and on the performance of the trainee during the first part of the traineeship.

The goal for this part of the traineeship is to give the trainee experience working in the field, and to strengthen the Country or Regional Offices’ work with ECHO.

The trainee with get an opportunity to learn closely how to work with ECHO in more practical terms, which includes the whole project cycle from engagement and proposal writing to implementation and reporting.

 In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • University degree (MA highly desirable) in development studies, political or social science, international relations, European studies, or other related discipline;
  • Knowledge of and/or previous experience engaging with ECHO;
  • The ability to analyse complex data, summarize it and communicate it to different audiences is essential;
  • Well-organised and flexible with the ability to work independently and take on additional responsibilities when required;
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal, fluency English is essential);
  • Working level of spoken and written French;
  • Willingness to work in difficult working environments;
  • Authorisation to work in Belgium

This is a paid traineeship:

  • Allowance in Brussels: approximately € 853,50 (+ full transport coverage and contribution to lunch vouchers); and
  • Allowance in the field (if deployed): approximately € 1,000 (+ accommodation, visa, medical insurance, security trainings, and flights covered). Further information to be confirmed.
