The Opportunity

Save the Children Europe has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Communications and Advocacy Assistant in Brussels.This role has been created as a development opportunity to provide interns with the opportunity to gain experience with the leading non-governmental organisation working for children. In particular to gain a deeper understanding of communications and advocacy around child rights and development in context of the EU.

The role holder will have an opportunity to further their knowledge of the European institutions, as well as the links between the work of Save the Children at Brussels level and that of Save the Children European members. They will assist the communications, campaigns and advocacy staff to ensure that the EU’s policies support Save the Children’s priorities, particularly in areas around health, nutrition and development. They will play a role in supporting staff to develop our communications presence and relationships with Brussels press corps and key media influencers.

A work plan, as well as a learning and development plan, will be agreed with the intern during the induction period.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to communicate to people of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience using multimedia software such as In Design would be highly valued.
  • Strong technical aptitude in MS Office
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; skills in other languages would be an advantage
  • Enthusiastic, proactive with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Organised, with an ability to meet deadlines and high standards of quality
  • Ability to manage small and medium sized projects, with appropriate support
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage own workload, with some supervision
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Educated to Master’s degree level
  • A demonstrable interest in development issues and children’s rights
  • Commitment to Save the Children's mission

This contract will be under a professional immersion agreement (convention d'immersion professionnelle ("CIP")) with a possibility of an extension afrer 6 months, provided the role holder has not already completed the maximum number of CIPs.
