The Position

The European Banking Federation (EBF) is seeking to recruit a full-time Policy Adviser for its Cybersecurity & Innovation team, for a limited contract until 31 December 2020, who will be responsible for developing policy positions and coordinating members' actions. The successful candidate will be working with and advocating vis-a-vis the European institutions to achieve an appropriate regulatory and supervisory framework in the EU.

Detailed responsibilities

This position involves coordinating the relevant EBF workstreams, as well as anticipating regulatory developments, EBF position-building and advocacy work in the field of cybersecurity and digital innovation.

Topics covered will include mainly cybersecurity and resilience, and their interfaces with digital innovation workstreams of EBF (e.g. AI, data, cloud, crypto assets, payments).

In that context, key responsibilities are:

  • Contributing to the development of the work programme, coordination of related working groups;
  • Coordinating the drafting and delivery of EBF positions/responses to consultations on relevant regulatory/legislative proposals, and building, where necessary, the communication of EBF messages in the areas of cybersecurity and innovation;
  • Actively making ongoing contacts with relevant policy-makers. Maintaining the EBF relationship with such institutions as "partner of choice".

Successful candidates fit for the following profile

  • University degree in Law or Political Sciences. Previous experience: preferably in ICT industry, trade association or EU institution;
  • Qualifications in digital fields will be considered an asset;
  • Thorough knowledge of banking, ICT developments, digital related regulatory matters and EU public affairs with at least 2-3 years of relevant experience;
  • Have an excellent understanding of the EU decision-making process;
  • Affinity with and basic understanding of more technical issues like payments, cloud computing, blockchain, digital transformation, data;
  • Excellent organisational skills and capacity to prepare large meetings, setting out agendas, discussing with experts about relevant content, overseeing the administrative work and taking responsibility on the development of the meeting/event;
  • Effective communication and team working skills;
  • Excellent influencing skills, persuasiveness and sense of diplomacy;
  • Ability to synthesise the views and inputs provided by EBF members to draft joint position papers in response to public consultations;
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken);
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure;
  • Openness to assume responsibilities on a variety of technical matters;
  • Strategic and analytical thinking skills in a project-driven environment.
