EU Relations Manager, Brussels-based

CMI (Crisis Management Initiative) is an independent, non-governmental organisation that works to resolve conflicts and build sustainable peace across the globe. CMI contributes to conflict resolution through dialogue and mediation, mediation support, and support to national actors. 

CMI is seeking a EU Relations Manager to support its EU-related engagements.

Under the supervision of CMI Director for European Affairs and in close cooperation with CMI teams, the EU Relations Manager will be responsible for supporting CMI engagements with EU stakeholders in Brussels, with a focus both on mediation-related policies and on contexts where CMI is engaged. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Maintaining and developing relationships and communication with stakeholders in Brussels;
  • Coordinating and supporting CMI-organized activities taking place in Brussels;
  • Monitoring EU policy developments related to mediation and to contexts where CMI is engaged in;
  • Attending Brussels-based events as required and circulating related information to CMI teams dealing with various portfolios;
  • Managing internal and external communications related to CMI’s engagements with the EU institutions and member states representations in Brussels, in coordination with relevant teams in CMI;
  • Supporting CMI Director for European Affairs with coordination, communication and events, both internally and externally;
  • Supporting fundraising efforts with the EU as required.

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Have a Master’s Degree from relevant field of study;
  • Have five to seven years of relevant work experience in conflict resolution and mediation, international peace and security, and particularly working with the EU institutions and EU member states representations in Brussels;
  • Have an excellent understanding and practical knowledge of the EU, its dynamics and politics and funding instruments, as well as an existing network in Brussels;
  • Have a good understanding of the mediation agenda as well as the Women, Peace and Security agenda and related issues, especially in the EU policy context;
  • Have excellent coordination skills and experience in working with teams remotely and in a multinational environment;
  • Be positive, service-minded and well organized, proactive and accurate. Understand sensitivities related to CMI’s work;
  • Have a flexible attitude and ability to work under pressure in challenging circumstances and under tight timelines;
  • Have excellent networking skills, good judgement and cultural sensitivity;
  • Be a good team worker while being able to work autonomously;
  • Have a strong oral and written command of English. Command of Russian, Arabic and French are seen as an asset;
  • Have the right to reside and work in Belgium. Be able to travel;
  • Commit to CMI values and principles of neutrality.

The EU Relations Manager will report to CMI Director for European Affairs. The position will be open-ended, and requires to be based in Brussels. Preferred starting date is as agreed, preferably in May 2020.
