European Bioplastics is the industry association representing the entire value chain of the bioplastics industry in Europe. Together with our more than 70 members we develop positions and contribute to legislative processes around the topics of resource efficiency, bioeconomy, circular economy, waste management, and climate change.

The bioplastics industry is a young and fast growing sector. Bioplastics offer sustainable alternatives to traditional plastics, which are increasingly being scrutinized due to environmental implications associated with their use and disposal. The advantages of bioplastics range from a significantly lower carbon footprint, less dependency on fossil fuels to multiple end of life options, including recycling, biodegradation, and industrial composting.

We are currently looking for a new Head of EU Policy Affairs who will represent the association in Brussels vis-à-vis the European Institutions and manage the Working Group “Regulatory Affairs“.

The role

The Head of EU Policy Affairs will acquire, assess, distil and disseminate relevant information to members covering all areas of legislative interest. This will involve the gathering of relevant information, the development of common EUBP positions and representing them at all relevant occasions.

The candidate must be self-motivated and capable of working on her/his own initiative whilst maintaining and promoting excellent relations with relevant members. The person will be reporting directly to the Managing Director.

Key tasks

  • Monitor sector relevant EU regulatory issues.
  • Gather and distill information on key dossiers.
  • Support EUBP’s Regulatory Affairs Working Group and prepare and facilitate related meetings.
  • Liaise with members and drive the development of sector positions, where appropriate.
  • Represent EUBP members’ interest towards EU institutions and relevant industry associations and on public forums/platforms.
  • Develop and maintain a network of relevant contacts and establish effective working relationships with key stakeholders, decision makers, and opinion formers within EU institutions and other key organisations.

Key skills required

This role requires a wide range of skills from data and information acquisition and analysis to dissemination of pertinent messages to different audiences. Communication is paramount, and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a track record incorporating the following key elements:

  • A university degree, preferably in natural and/or political science, and at least 5 years experience in  EU affairs.
  • Thorough understanding of the legislative process in the European institutions.
  • Technical competence to understand and analyse the wide-ranging issues affecting the industry and their implications.
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate professionally with a wide range of contacts.
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as team player skills.
  • Outstanding oral and written English is essential. Fluency in other European languages (German, French, Italian) would be an asset.

We offer

  • An exiting industry at the centre of every material and sustainability discussion currently ongoing.
  • A young team (mostly based in Berlin) that is always ready to support.
  • A well established working group Regulatory Affairs that knows its hot topics and is eager to share more information with different stakeholders in order to accurately inform about bioplastics.
  • An open-ended full-time employment contract.
  • Remuneration that adequately reflects both the professional background of the successful candidate as well as the tasks to be performed.
