Party of European Socialists (PES) 

The Party of European Socialists (PES) is a European political party, which brings together Socialist, Social Democratic, Democratic and Labour Parties of the European Union. There are 33 full member parties from the 27 EU member states plus the UK and Norway. In addition, there are 12 associate and 12 observer parties.  

The PES acts as an important network organization for our member parties by providing policy advice, assistance and organization of EU-related events. Our office is based in Brussels. 

The PES is currently looking for a Cohesion/Sustainable Cities/Intergenerational Policy Adviser 

One policy adviser to focus primarily on the following policy fields: 

I – Cohesion, Regional policy and Sustainable cities o EU Cohesion policy o Regional policy o Urban policy (incl. housing, urban transport, etc) 

II – Intergenerational policies o Youth policies, including the Youth Guarantee, the Child Guarantee o Education policies (national and European level) o Intergenerational policies and policies linked to the elderly (health, pensions, etc). 

Job description:

  • Helping develop PES policies on the policy areas under the adviser’s responsibility, such as:
  • Monitoring and analysing policy developments
  • Proactively proposing PES actions and reactions
  • Drafting policy documents, positions papers, speaking points, briefing notes, speeches, …
  • Cooperating with the PES Communications unit for relevant public communication actions.
  • Developing brochures for the PES external communication
  • Building networks and organising meetings relevant to the policy areas under the adviser’s responsibility, such as:
  • Follow policy developments in the CoR
  • Ministerial meetings
  • Relaunching the network of PES mayors from major cities (in cooperation with our existing partners PES Group in the CoR and PES Local)
  • Thematic network for experts from our members and partners
  • Maintaining, developing and coordinating relations with relevant stakeholders in EU institutions, PES member parties/organizations, trade unions and civil society organisations
  • Attending and participating at congresses, conferences, meetings and seminars
  • Other tasks or policy areas depending on the evolution of needs.

Profile:

  • A commitment to the core values of the PES
  • University degree in a field relevant to the position
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience
  • Solid knowledge of European decision-making, EU institutions and European and international politics
  • Advanced writing skills and policy analysis
  • A very good understanding of political dynamics
  • Experience in a political structure would be an asset
  • Excellent English and at least 1 other EU language.
  • A high level of analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • A constructive team player
  • A good command of office IT skills
