JOB DESCRIPTION

The adviser join EACBs Retail Banking, Payments and Financial Markets Department. This department deals with legislative, supervisory and other European initiatives impacting the product development side of cooperative banks and the relationship with their clients such as product legislation (e.g. mortgages, consumer credit, accounts, payments, investment services), horizontal consumer protection law (e.g. data protection) but also other horizontal policy debates such as digitalisation, money-laundering and sustainable finance. The person in question will report to the Head of the Department. Her or his portfolio will comprise the following tasks:

  • Monitoring of European initiatives (legislative or self-regulatory) relevant for cooperative banks in the area of retail banking. Areas of particular interest are bank accounts, lending and borrowing, savings, horizontal consumer protection law and Anti-Money Laundering;
  • Building and maintaining of a network of relevant contacts in 1) EU institutions and other bodies (e.g. European Commission/European Parliament/Council/EBA) and 2) stakeholder organisations and other trade associations contributing to the debate on the above-mentioned topics;
  • Building and maintaining close relations with the staff members and experts in EACB member organisations that are responsible for the above-mentioned topics;
  • Providing regular updates to member organisations about regarding relevant regulatory policy debates and initiatives, self-regulatory initiatives or other interesting developments (by way of, emails, internal memos and reports);
  • The organisation and animation of meetings with EACB members to discuss the above topics, which take place in the context of the EACB Consumer Policy Working Group and Anti-Money Laundering Expert Group;
  • Drafting of papers, letters and speeches expressing the view of the EACB membership on relevant policy initiatives for internal and external use and or distribution;
  • Advocate the views of EACB member organisations in meetings with representatives of the EU institutions and other stakeholders;
  • Support the running of the secretariat of the European Banking Industry Committee (EBIC).

PROFILE

  • Can demonstrate affinity with banking and cooperative banking in particular;
  • Have a distinct interest in the above-mentioned topics and advocacy;
  • Hold a university degree (Master’s level) in EU law, business administration or economics;
  • Have a first work experience in the area of banking, financial service policy making or in European Affairs/the EU institutions;
  • Have a good knowledge of EU law, EU institutions and EU decision making processes;
  • Are fluent in written and spoken English. Knowledge of other official languages of the European Union is also appreciated;
  • Are outgoing, quick learners and have good communication, drafting and analytical skills;
  • Have the capacity to work independently;
  • Are team-players with strong inter-personal skills and ability to work efficiently under time pressure.
