SEA Europe, the Shipyards’ and Maritime Equipment Association of Europe, is the voice of the European maritime technology industry. SEA Europe promotes and supports enterprises which are involved in the design, construction, maintenance and repair of all types of ships and maritime structures, including the complete supply chain of systems, equipment and services. The industry is the key enabler of the Blue Growth, providing the technologies and vessels for the development offshore energies, green shipping, aquaculture, maritime surveillance activities, and so on. With an annual turnover of over EUR 91 billion, the sector provides over 500,000 direct jobs in the maritime technology industries in Europe.

SEA Europe is the European umbrella organisation representing shipyards and maritime equipment designers and providers. 90% of the industry is represented through SEA Europe membership. It is registered as a Belgian organisation, and represents the maritime technology industry in 16 countries (www.seaeurope.eu).

SEA Europe represents its members in front of the European institutions, the IMO (International Maritime Organisation), the ILO, OECD and other international networks and organisations.

The SEA Naval Working Group (SEA Naval):

SEA Naval is a permanent dedicated working group under SEA Europe’s umbrella open to naval companies ranging from large naval integrators to SMEs as well as to member associations.

European naval yards and equipment manufacturers have proven to be world leaders in functionality, quality and value and in terms of exports volume in international naval markets. SEA Europe facilitates the cooperation at European level in areas of naval common interest through SEA Naval. It serves as a platform for the European Naval industry to meet and discuss relevant topics and for jointly participating in EU funded projects. 

It represents nearly 100% of naval shipyards and provides a forum for discussing matters of common interest to the naval sector, notably defining a common position on research and development and supporting institutions with expertise when needed. Our goal is to provide the EU and its Member States with the expertise, technology and capabilities required to guarantee their freedom of action.

SEA Naval successfully achieved several flagship projects and is the interface of the Naval Industry with the EU Institutions.

Mission:

SEA Europe is looking for a Communications Officer to help with the management of an EDIDP (European Defence Industrial Development Programme) project on naval matters. He/she will be responsible for implementing the overall communications and dissemination plan, and for providing communications around all project’s events and activities.

In his/her capacity of SEA Europe Communications Officer, he/she will report to the Secretary General of SEA Europe, the SEA Naval Director and the Project Officer in charge of the project.

The Communications Officer will be responsible for communicating and disseminating information related to the project to various audiences using different channels, such as the website, newsletters, press releases, flyers/brochures, social media, etc. He/she will raise awareness to the project’s activities and results. The Communications Officer should have excellent native-level English language skills, sound technical ability (design, graphic, video) and commitment to create high-quality creative content.

Main duties of the Communications Officer are the following:

  • Responsible for branding the project’s identity;
  • Contribute to the elaboration of the communication plan under the responsibility of the Project Officer in charge of the project;
  • Proactively look for opportunities to launch communication actions;
  • Design and maintain a public website;
  • Create and maintain a web-based internal collaborative platform;
  • Develop flyers/brochures/factsheets;
  • Produce written materials such as newsletters, press releases, press briefings, etc.;
  • Produce and maintain web and social media materials (Twitter, LinkedIn);
  • Develop multimedia communications material, including videos, photos, infographics, etc.;
  • Translate technical information into easily understandable, attractive content;
  • Provide overall support to the team on communications and disseminations-related activities.

Skills and education:

  • University degree in communications, or similar;
  • Communication skills and a first experience in a communications role;
  • Fluent in English:
  • Superior writing and editing skills;
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with MS Office, Adobe, web- and video editing;
  • Experience with media distribution and social media;
  • Familiarity, or experience with, EU landscape;
  • A strong knowledge and interest in naval matters is a plus.

Additionally:

  • Good organisational autonomy is required;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Capacity to work under tight deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are a must.
