IAB Europe is the European-level association for the digital marketing and advertising ecosystem. Through its membership of national IABs and media, technology and marketing companies, its mission is to lead political representation and promote industry collaboration to deliver frameworks, standards and industry programmes that enable business to thrive in the European market.
IAB Europe is recruiting a Privacy & Data Protection Officer to join our Brussels-based legal team. The candidate should have sound knowledge of European data protection legislation (notably GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive) and an interest in its impacts on technological development, especially digital media.
Key responsibilities
Responsibilities for the role include collaborating with IAB Europe’s Legal and Technical Directors in:
- Supporting the Legal Committee in its work to understand, analyse and shape how EU legislation and regulation impacts the digital advertising industry.
- Overseeing all Committees and Working Groups that contribute to shaping the future evolution of the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF), supporting member companies and National IABs in identifying how the TCF needs to evolve in light of enforcement actions by the National Data Protection Authorities (DPAs), national and European jurisprudence, and practical experience in the market. Key instances are the TCF Steering Group and Working Groups (Policies, DPA Outreach and Framework Signals WGs).
- Developing and overseeing a compliance programme for Consent Management Providers (CMPs) and Vendors that implement the Transparency & Consent Framework. This will involve testing compliance with technical specifications and TCF policy requirements, as well as an ongoing enforcement initiative to ensure that CMPs and Vendors continue to comply with the TCF policies.
- Provide IAB Tech Lab (who collaborate with IAB Europe and provide technical support to the TCF) with appropriate direction on policy and regulatory updates to enable them to iterate on the TCF technical specifications.
Profile
The successful candidate will have:
- A first degree in law
- Good working knowledge of EU privacy and data protection rules
- Ability to analyze legislative requirements and translate these into organizational practices and solutions
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- An interest in digital technology and the ability to interact confidently with technology industry professionals
- Fluent English
- At least 1-2 years experience in a data protection compliance role
