Cordaid is looking for a:

Expert Security & Justice - Women, Peace and Security

(32 to 36 hours, based in The Netherlands)

Security & Justice is one of Cordaid’s key thematic areas. Cordaid is strategically positioned to work both with formal and informal justice and security providers and peacebuilding and peacekeeping initiatives, as well as with organisations representing security and justice seekers and inclusive peacebuilding and women’s rights.

What you do

Within Cordaid’s Program Unit and Security & Justice team, the Expert will dedicate a large part of their time and efforts to our Strategic Partnership Just Future (funded by Dutch MFA) which started in January 2021 for five years. This programme focuses on capacity strengthening of civil society and on lobby & advocacy. It is implemented by a consortium composed of 6 international NGOs, 3 research institutes, 1 network organisation and 25 partners in 6 programme countries and at international level. The Expert will also undertake business development on the 2 subjects, support proposal development and writing, and deliver technical assistance in other projects.

Cordaid is looking for an all-round expert, who can contribute to the wider Security & Justice programme, and specializes in Women, Peace & Security and Inclusive Political Participation and Peace Processes, and who will among others:

  • Lead in implementing of one of the three pathways within the Just Future programme (Inclusive Political Decision-making and Peace Processes). This entails;

- Development, implementation and coordination of international lobbying & advocacy strategies and initiatives related to the pathway.

- Liaising with Cordaid offices in 6 countries, alliance partners and local partners in ensuring alignment of national and international lobby plans and inputs.

- Providing technical expertise and capacity strengthening on lobby and advocacy to Cordaid offices, alliance partners and local partners.

- Providing inputs to the research agenda, research set-up and linkages related to the respective pathways.

- Coordinating with the other experts in the Just Future program on lobbying and advocacy.

  • Provide technical assistance to Cordaid colleagues, teams, and participate in or lead Communities of Experts (CoE) and Communities of Practice (CoP), and in projects on designing, implementing and monitoring programming on Women, Peace & Security and Inclusive Political Participation and Peace Processes.
  • Support internal and external capacity strengthening on Women, Peace & Security and Inclusive Political Participation and Peace Processes, including through training, developing training curricula and coaching.
  • Initiate and collaborate, with diverse stakeholders, on research and innovations to expand on our current knowledge and learnings on Women, Peace & Security and Inclusive Political Participation and Peace Processes.
  • Profile Cordaid’s Security & Justice programming, research and track-record with relevant actors, including institutional donors, and build a solid network.
  • Develop and write winning proposals.

Who you are

  • You hold a Master’s degree in (International) Law, Political -, or Social Sciences or equivalent subject.
  • You have at least 8 years’ (international) working experience in Security & Justice programming, for example on topics such as Women, Peace & Security or Peacebuilding.
  • You have at least 5 years’ experience in an advisory function for an international organisation.
  • You have experience in policy influencing and know the international institutions and mechanisms that are key for lobby & advocacy in the field of Women, Peace and Security.
  • You are able to initiate, support and implement research.
  • Your knowledge is complemented with training and facilitation skills.
  • You are a team player and have social and communication skills to create networks, ensure coordination, and to stimulate cooperation among colleagues and partners.
  • You speak and write English fluently and French on a professional level.
  • You have strong analytical skills.
  • You are an entrepreneurial personality with an eye for innovation.
  • You are able and willing to travel frequently, also to our countries of implementation.
