About the team/job

As the Senior Financial Analysis and Controlling Specialist you will support the Head of Finance in providing the administrative and scientific units with relevant data and reports to support and facilitate decision making. This will require that you are familiar with understanding and analyzing accounting transactions, financial and economic data. You will be required to build relationships with relevant teams within EMBL. You will also be required to assist in maintaining a culture of customer service within the team, recommending and implementing improvements in procedures and reporting. You will be required to assist in the training of EMBL colleagues and as such promote their finance acumen.

Your role

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Supports the EMBL management decision-making processes with relevant information and sound and reliable data analysis from various sources;
  • Establishes first class account and scientific analytics, planning & monitoring tools to help manage budget and indicative scheme. This includes designing, building and maintaining automated reporting and dashboards to track performance;
  • Provides strategic and operational analysis for ad hoc assignments and initiatives;
  • Serving as the finance liaison for the SAP team and budget office team to manage, administer and optimize EMBL reporting and reviewing processes, forecasts, budget planning and monitoring;
  • Partner with other administrative and scientific units in Heidelberg and in remote sites to reflect and evaluate new initiatives and determine if and how they fit into reporting and roadmaps. This includes evaluating requests for reporting changes;
  • Supports finance and other administrative units in reviewing, summarizing and optimizing key EMBL processes including recommendations for rolling out of best practices for maximum effectiveness and efficiency;
  • Monitors and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs);
  • Develops the professionalization of analysis and reporting documentation;
  • Assist in creating and maintaining cost centers for all EMBL sites.

You have

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of financial principles (P&L, budgeting, analytics, indicative scheme);
  • Informal influencing and management skills, managerial courage;
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Hands-on;
  • Demonstrates a high degree of self-motivation, target orientation and a drive to achieve results combined with strong EMBL understanding;
  • Must be able to successfully operate with minimal supervision;
  • Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities;
  • Able to align and work with diverse global stakeholders;
  • Accept ownership;
  • Several years of experience in a data and analysis role;
  • Experience in connecting reporting and analysis to various data sources including SAP, BW etc.;
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel required.

You might also have

  • Previous relevant experience ideally gained in an similar international enviroment is advatageous.
