EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency, operating satellites that monitor the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Working as part of a multinational team of professionals at the cutting edge of satellite technology, the Legal Officer will provide legal advice on German data protection and institutional law matters. The Legal Officer will participate in the negotiation and drafting of legal arrangements with national and international partners of EUMETSAT to ensure EUMETSAT’s smooth functioning as an organisation.

Duties

  • Provide legal advice on a broad range of German law matters including Labour Law, Social Security Law, Tax Law and Company Law;
  • Provide legal advice on Data Protection Law and on Institutional Law;
  • Deliver legal advice on other areas of EUMETSAT activities;
  • Coordinate relevant external legal studies;
  • Draft and amend EUMETSAT legal documents and support the negotiations of agreements with international partners;
  • Represent EUMETSAT and attend committees and bodies relevant to the above.

  • Excellent salary, of up to Euro 8,500/month NET (after income tax) based on skills and experience;

Skills and experience

  • Proven experience in providing legal advice in a complex organisational setting, preferably in a European or international organisation;
  • Ability to draft legal opinions and documentation, while demonstrating resilience, flexibility, and the ability to prioritise a heavy workload;
  • Broad knowledge of German law and ability to handle a variety of legal matters simultaneously. Good knowledge of labour law, social security law and data protection law would be an advantage;
  • Experience in using information technology and office software systems is required;
  • Strong interpersonal and team-working skills and the ability to communicate with many different organisational interfaces.

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified under German law, i.e. First and Second State Exam (“Volljurist”) plus knowledge of European and Public International Law.
