We are Europe's flagship research laboratory for the life sciences - an intergovernmental organisation performing scientific research in disciplines including molecular biology, physics, chemistry and computer science. We are an international, innovative and interdisciplinary laboratory with more than 1700 employees from many nations, operating across six sites, in Heidelberg (HQ), Barcelona, Hinxton near Cambridge, Hamburg, Grenoble and Rome. EMBL offers and maintains a vibrant, cooperative, team-oriented and open working atmosphere.
Training the next generation of scientists is a core mission of the EMBL. EICAT's Internal Scientific Training team coordinates EMBL's predoctoral and postdoctoral programmes, which provide world-class training and career development support for our fellow community. The EMBL International PhD programme (EIPP) is widely recognized as one of EMBL's flagship programmes and hosts ca. 220 PhD students across the six sites at any given time.
We are looking for a highly pro-active and motivated individual to support the Dean of Graduate Studies in the development and coordination of projects that are of strategic importance to the expansion and advancement of the PhD programme. You will also work closely with the EIPP administrators as well as with other colleagues in the Internal Training Team, such as the Postdoc Programme Manager and the Career Advisors.
A PhD degree in the life sciences is required for this position. Previous experience in a similar position would be beneficial but is not a must. Recent graduates and postdocs with a clear interest in science management are encouraged to apply.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of efficiently planning and executing multiple projects within a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are essential for this position. Applicants should demonstrate logical and strategic thinking, a high degree of independence, self-motivation and flexibility. Qualifications must include a first rate command of written and spoken English.
Formal qualifications in project management or previous experience in grant writing would be an advantage. Knowledge of advanced statistics and data visualisation would also be an asset. Spoken and written knowledge of German is desirable, as is fluency in other languages, especially French, Italian or Spanish.
EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation with a very collegial and family friendly working environment. The remuneration package comprises a competitive salary, a comprehensive pension scheme, medical, educational and other social benefits, as well as financial support for relocation and installation, including your family and the availability of an excellent child care facility on campus.
