Your role

EMBL is seeking an Equality and Diversity Officer, to develop and embed plans, policies and practices that will bring improved equality and diversity to EMBL. In this role, you will work closely with leadership and staff at Heidelberg and in EMBL's other sites, coordinating activities and extending pilot projects. You will also network outside of EMBL, attending conferences and events to bring existing best practice in the area of equality and diversity into EMBL.

Reporting to the Chair of EMBL´s Equality and Diversity Committee, you will work closely with the Equality and Diversity Officer based at EMBL-EBI in Hinxton. You will be part of EMBL's Equality and Diversity Committee, convening and minuting meetings and coordinating the activities of its working groups. In addition, you will implement the activities of the equality and diversity Strategy which will establish a clear direction and actions to bring about change.

You will work very closely with the Chair of the Equality and Diversity committee on helping to fulfil its goals, and widely with other colleagues across the organisation's sites.

You have

Diversity, with good strategic vision, able to implement an equality and diversity Strategy. You are an enthusiastic self-starter with the flexibility to adapt to the ever-changing equality and diversity landscape and to take on new tasks as and when they occur.

You will have the following experience and skills:

  • Educated to degree level;
  • First experience of working in the field of Equality and Diversity with an intersectional approach;
  • Possessing an insatiable interest in developments in the field of Equality and Diversity in relation to intersectionality;
  • Numerate and possessing strong skills in the use of Excel and the presentation of data and statistics;
  • Well organised, self-starting and focussed on delivery of key tasks;
  • Confident to engage with Faculty, leadership, staff and stakeholders;
  • Good writing skills for the production of reports;
  • Good presentation skills;
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

You might also have

  • Experience working internationally is desirable, though not required.
