Limburg is one of the twelve provinces of the Netherlands and is located in the southeast of the country. It is sometimes called Dutch Limburg when it is necessary to distinguish it from the Flemish province of the same name. The provincial government consists of the Provincial Council, the Provincial Executive and the King's Commissioner. The government in the provinces is supported by the officials. They prepare the plans and implement the decisions of the board. The provincial organization is headed by a provincial secretary / general director. The provinces form the link between the municipalities and the national government and are therefore called the central administration. Simply put, they perform the tasks that are too large for municipalities and too small for the national government. The provinces often collaborate with other governments (central government, municipalities and water boards) and with companies and social organizations.
