The European Union is represented in China by the Delegation in Beijing. The Delegation was established in Beijing in October 1988. The Delegation has full diplomatic privileges and immunities with the Head of Delegation accorded full ambassadorial status. The Delegation is responsible for the conduct of official relations between China and the European Union. In all matters pertaining to the European Union, the Delegation works closely with the diplomatic missions of the EU Member States, particularly the one representing the EU Presidency, which changes every six months. The Delegation is a natural point of contact between the EU and the Chinese authorities as well as others in China. It does not, however, deal with trade promotion, consular matters or other issues which have traditionally been handled by the Member State embassies, consulates or national tourism offices. The EU Delegation keeps abreast the European External Action Service, the Commission and other EU institutions on significant political, economic and other developments in China and facilitates the operation and development of bilateral co - operation agreements. The Delegation has different sections, including Political Affairs, Press and Information, Trade and Investment, Science and Technology, Development and Cooperation, Agricultural, Information Society, Financial, Contract and Audit, and Administration Section.
