ELF works to ensure people living with lung disease have access to evidence-based information and the opportunity to influence respiratory research, guidelines and policy at a European level. ELF has >200 patient organisations in its patient organisation network from 51 countries. It also has 13 disease-specific patient advisory groups, who provide input and advise on the priorities important to patients. ELF has offices based in Sheffield and in Brussels.

ELF was founded by the European Respiratory Society (ERS). ERS is an international membership organisation that brings experts working in respiratory medicine. It has a membership of >35,000 individuals representing over 160 countries. It is the leading medical organisation in the respiratory field. ERS has a strong presence via its Advocacy team in Brussels.
