The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) acts as the umbrella group in Brussels for 45 independent national consumer organisations. Our main task is to represent them at the European level and defend the interests of all Europe’s consumers. We do so by investigating EU decisions and developments likely to affect consumers. This covers the following areas: consumer rights, digital rights, energy, enforcement, financial services, food, health, safety, sustainability and trade policy. Our acronym stands for the French ‘Bureau Européen des Unions de Consommateurs’. We were founded in 1962 by consumer groups from 6 Member States of, what was then, the European Economic Community (EEC). Nowadays our members are from all 28 EU Member States as well as Iceland, North Macedonia, Norway and Switzerland.
