Together with our liberal and democrat member parties across the European continent we are translating the principle of freedom into politics, economics and all other areas of our societies. The ALDE Party consists of 60 member parties from 37 countries across Europe and currently 7 Prime Ministers from Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Slovenia. The ALDE Party brings together more than 50 Members of the European Parliament from among its member parties. The ALDE Group, with ALDE Party MEPs together with the MEPs from the European Democratic Party, form the 4th largest political force in the European Parliament led by Guy Verhofstadt MEP. Liberals and democrats created their European political family in 1976 in view of the first European elections. In 1993, the ALDE Party was established as a true transnational political party. The current president of the ALDE Party is Hans van Baalen MEP.
