About the Motion Picture Association (MPA)

At the Motion Picture Association (MPA) EMEA we aspire to advance the business and art of film and tv production and celebrate its enjoyment throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The global and local entertainment industries have a common goal: promoting and protecting the creative sectors and the millions of jobs they support. The EMEA office of the MPA is based in Brussels, Belgium and was opened in 1995. Our principal activities include: work on legislative and regulatory issues at European and national levels; development and implementation of content protection strategies; and collaboration with other right holder groups to promote intellectual property rights and the interest of the audiovisual sector. About the position

Key responsibilities:

  • Follow implementation at Member State level of key EU legal instruments and manage internal reporting;
  • Support the EMEA policy team on all its work on legislative and regulatory issues, including by providing support to the Copyright Policy Counsel in terms of drafting legal arguments and providing support to the EU Affairs Directors as directed;
  • Attend and report on relevant policy events;
  • Participate and/or lead advocacy work in identified policy fields or specific markets (depending on qualifications);
  • Manage and coach interns.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a positive attitude and demonstrated team spirit;
  • Holds a Masters degree in a relevant field (legal, political science, communications). A legal background is desirable;
  • Has a sound understanding of EU copyright legislation (including the Copyright in the Information Society, Copyright in the DSM and SatCab Directives);
  • Has a minimum of three years of relevant experience in any of the three main EU institutions or in a Brussels-based consultancy or association;
  • Is a native French speaker and also fluent in English. Other EU languages, especially Spanish and Italian are desirable;
  • Has strong research and writing skills; excellent command of MS Office applications;
  • Is prepared to travel occasionally.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS and COMPENSATION: We offer a full-time and permanent position that reports directly to the Senior Vice President Government Affairs EMEA. Salary will be dependent on qualifications.
