The Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) represents the private sector manufacturers of plasma-derived and recombinant analog therapies, collectively known as plasma protein therapies and the collectors of source plasma used for fractionation. These therapies are used by patients worldwide to treat a variety of diseases and serious medical conditions. PPTA member companies produce approximately 80% of the plasma protein therapies in the U.S. and 60% of those manufactured in Europe.

PPTA works globally to:

  • Advocate for access to and affordability of therapies for patients;
  • Engage in constructive dialogue with regulatory agencies;
  • Collaborate with patient advocacy organizations.

PPTA also administers standards and programs that help ensure the quality and safety of plasma collection and manufacturing and protect both donors and patients.

PPTA Europe is actively engaged in setting advocacy and priority initiatives for improving access to care to plasma protein therapies at both the European Union level and within member states. Staff monitors legislative and policy developments related to the sector of plasma protein therapies, including, but not limited to, plasma collection, manufacturing, safety and quality.

The Manager, Public Affairs, is responsible for:

  • Developing the organisation’s advocacy strategy in Brussels, under the supervision of the Director, EU Health Policy, in coordination with the Executive Director and other Health Policy colleagues.
  • Developing and implementing new communications strategies and additional outreach activities, under the supervision of the Director, Global Communications and the Executive Director.
  • Drafting, coordinating, and editing policy content produced by the organisation (e.g. position papers, policy briefings, answering consultations, producing policy news items, campaign and other advocacy material, etc.).
  • Upon request, representing the organisation on policy topics in events, conferences, working groups, and active participation in other relevant working groups and stakeholder alliances.
  • Organising dedicated advocacy and outreach events on PPTA priorities (meetings with EU institutions, national, regional and local policy makers, and with other relevant stakeholders; planning and implementation of advocacy actions, etc.).
  • Expanding the PPTA network with the European Institutions, MEPs offices and staff as well as with Members State representations in Brussels; expanding and maintaining constructive relationships with these stakeholders.
  • Liaising and maintaining relationships with relevant patient organisations.
  • Liaising internally with the Director Global Communications, on the management of communication materials and channels, including social media, newsletters, “The Source” magazine and other channels.

Requirements

  • University Degree in political sciences, public affairs, law, pharmacy, medicine or other if deemed relevant.
  • At least 5-6 years of professional experience in advocacy, outreach and communications and/or in a relevant position.
  • Excellent command of English; good command of French and other European languages is seen as assets.
  • Excellent understanding of the EU decision making process, particularly in healthcare policy.
  • Excellent organisational skills and capacity to prepare large meetings, discuss and prepare agendas discussing with experts about relevant content, and take responsibility for the development of the meeting/event.
  • Excellent influencing skills, persuasiveness and sense of diplomacy.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Leadership and proactivity in identifying outreach and communications channels and opportunities.
  • Proven record of proposals, reports or articles writing, text editing skills.
  • Ability to blend the views and inputs provided by constituents to draft industry position papers.
  • Excellent skills in teamwork and collective decision making while also able to work independently if needed.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking skills in a project-driven environment.
  • Intercultural skills to interact with stakeholders, members, and staffs from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Willingness to travel, availability for occasional work outside regular office hours.
  • The ideal candidate will show considerable commitment to his/her work, enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards the various projects for which the individual will be responsible.
