EuroMed Rights is looking to recruit an experienced, dynamic professional as Migration & Asylum Programme Officer.

S/he ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of EuroMed Rights program on migration; including the well-functioning of the Migration and Asylum Working Group and close cooperation with the EuroMed Rights Executive Committee migration political referent and resource persons.

S/he monitors the situation of migration and asylum in the EuroMed region, including EU policies in this regard, and proactively identifies and proposes actions and positions to advance EuroMed Rights’ strategy and standing as an active actor to promote a human rights-based approach to migration in the EuroMed region.

Essential position functions:

  • Develops a strategy and a work plan for the migration and asylum programme in cooperation with the Migration and Asylum Working Group (MAWG) and under the guidance of the migration political referent from the EuroMed Rights Executive Committee;
  • Proactively identifies and proposes actions and positions regarding main migration and asylum developments in the EuroMed region, in line with the MA strategy and EuroMed Rights mission and political positions;
  • Coordinates with/assists migration-related aspects of other EuroMed Rights programs (e.g., Gender and Women’s Rights; Economic and Social Rights);
  • Ensures proper financial management of budgets for the migration and asylum programme, including identifying and proposing fund-raising opportunities;
  • Ensures proper narrative and financial reporting to donors for the migration and asylum programme;
  • Supervise Migration and Asylum assistant and intern, when applicable;
  • Coordinates and/or prepares research reports, press releases and recommendations on issues related to migration and asylum in the Euro-Mediterranean region;
  • Proposes, develops and implements EuroMed Rights advocacy and communication actions on migration and asylum;
  • Ensures the integration of gender (gender mainstreaming) in the migration and asylum programme.

Profile, Skills and Background:

  • University degree in Human Rights, Law, Political and Social Science, European Studies or similar relevant education background;
  • Profound knowledge and experience with migration and asylum-related issues; both from research and advocacy/communication perspective
  • Minimum 3 years of proven experience in advocating for the protection of human rights and/or in civil society activism in the Euro-Mediterranean region;
  • Strong negotiation skills and proven ability to communicate with/advocate before international, EU and national-level bodies;
  • Fluency (spoken and written) in English and French, knowledge of Arabic is an asset;
  • Experience of supervising/coordinating staff, and ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain contacts with EuroMed Rights partners and members, NGOs and Official representatives;
  • Computer literacy in Office suite;
  • Self-motivated, well-organised, able to work strategically, independently and efficiently under pressure, in a fast, flexible and relentless manner;
  • Keen attention to details.
