Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. In collaboration with more than 100 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

TI’s international secretariat (TI-S) develops cutting-edge research products, collects evidence on what works in anti-corruption, coordinates collective action and leads on regional and global advocacy. We are looking to fill an exciting legal position that will be based in TI-S and contribute to the work of the Global Anti-Corruption Consortium (GACC) – a ground-breaking partnership with investigative journalists at the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). Taking advantage of advocacy opportunities generated by OCCRP’s in-depth investigations, TI works to disrupt cross-border corruption through policy advocacy and legal action across the world. This work directly contributes to the TI Strategy and global advocacy priorities: tackling of the cross-border flows of corrupt money and protecting political systems from undue influence. Examples stemming from this collaboration include TI’s campaigning and legal accountability work around the Azerbaijani Laundromat, Golden Visas in Europe, and the Gambia Heist investigations together with TI national chapters and other partners.

Main function:

The Legal Liaison Officer – Grand Corruption Cases provides assistance to the team working in the area of grand corruption cases, liaising with TI national chapters and other partner organizations on their involvement in casework, supporting the team with both maintaining already existing relationships as well as forming new relationships, and providing administrative support to the team to ensure that partner organizations receive assistance in their legal casework.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with TI national chapters and other partner organisations on their involvement in casework;
  • Support the team with both maintaining already existing relationships as well as forming new relationships with NGOs working on cases as well as former law enforcement, prosecutors and judges;
  • Provide administrative support to the team to ensure that partner organisations receive assistance in their legal casework;
  • Contribute to the analysis of potential grand corruption cases from a legal accountability point of view and provide input for and support preparation of legal submissions on concrete grand corruption cases;
  • Support the development of funding proposals and contribute to monitoring, evaluation and learning activities;
  • Provide assistance on a wide range of tasks (e.g. editorial, administrative, organisational) when required.

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • Academic degree (4+ years of university level legal education) or professional qualification in law;
  • 1-2+ years of relevant experience with demonstrated in-depth knowledge related to legal affairs or related fields required, specific experience in anti-corruption casework an advantage;
  • Experience of managing and maintaining of partnerships in an NGO coalition an advantage;
  • Knowledge of project management and monitoring and evaluation an advantage;
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and maintain a professional approach;
  • Very good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills;
  • Professional language proficiency in English required; fluency in other UN languages an asset;
  • IT proficiency, in particular secure information sharing applications, an advantage;
  • Entrepreneurial, creative and opportunity-driven mindset;
  • Commitment to the values and goals of Transparency International.

Other information about the post and the location:

This position is based in Berlin, in Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S). There is no possibility of remote working, or working from home outside Germany. Prior to applying, candidates are therefore strongly advised to consider whether they are able to relocate.
