Are you concerned by transport’s climate impact and continued reliance on petroleum? Transport & Environment (T&E) is looking for a campaigner to organise and lead a European campaign on biofuels. The aim of the programme is to address these questions and more by organising coordinated mobilisation and advocacy activities in the context of the review of the EU energy & climate laws. The programme is part of a wider strategy to end transport’s reliance on petroleum, phase-out the use of crop biofuels and reward cleaner energy sources in transport, like renewable electricity.

The position requires an individual with strong campaigning and coordination skills. The successful candidate will be able to work with EU partners and coordinate their activities, ensuring timely and high-quality project deliverables.

T&E offers you the chance to help shape policies with huge implications for democracy, for people and for the environment in Europe and across the globe. We offer a competitive salary with a substantial package of benefits. While the role would benefit from being Brussels located, T&E can offer some flexibility of location. We also offer a flexible approach to daily working hours.

This is a permanent, full-time position.

The role:

  • Design, oversee and implement an EU wide campaign on biofuels, in coordination with local NGO partners, including project management;
  • Coordinate the actions of partner NGOs in several European countries (at least in France, Germany, Spain and Italy);
  • Work with the T&E communications team to draft and implement a communications plan in cooperation with partner NGOs;
  • Follow policy discussions on the EU long-term climate strategy and renewable energy in transport (e.g. the review of the Renewable Energy Directive);
  • Oversee the creation of compelling comms materials (videos, infographics, images, ads) for social media activation in cooperation with partner NGOs and support national groups with the dissemination.

You are/have:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in policy work, campaigning or network coordination;
  • Campaigning or policy experience in the field of environment, climate, health, etc.;
  • Proven experience building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders internally and externally including remote staff;
  • Experience coordinating a project with several partners, especially in international partnerships;
  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English, other European languages would be an asset;
  • Having a background in EU policy and project management is highly desirable;
  • Experience working with remote located staff and across cultures;
  • Perceptive, fast learner and able to absorb and synthesize new information rapidly;
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a facilitative and service-oriented style.

To apply, please complete an application form and send a copy of your CV to vacancy@transportenvironment.org clearly demonstrating how you meet the essential criteria. The email subject line should state Application for Biofuels Campaigner.

The closing date for applications is the COB Friday 21th March 2021. First Round interviews are likely to be held the following week by videoconference. The successful candidate will be expected to start as soon as possible.
