Hanover Brussels is looking for a talented professional with a passion for business and EU public affairs to join its fast-paced trade & sustainability policy team.

The Consultant will be responsible for supporting a broad portfolio of clients. We require someone who has experience working in the sector, preferably within a public affairs consultancy, and with a deep knowledge of the workings of the EU institutions, and EU policy. Knowledge of EU trade policy is a must, knowledge of EU sustainability policy is a strong asset. The successful candidate will take on responsibilities in supporting and managing client accounts and will report to the Head of the Sustainability & Trade practice of the Brussels office in ensuring the team continues to build on its success.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Consultant provides support to the Head of the Sustainability & Trade in advising Hanover’s existing clients, in the overall management of key client accounts and of more junior team members. The Consultant also provides support on new business activity including contributing to proposals and pitches, identifying new business opportunities, and planning and executing marketing opportunities and activities.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

Client handling:

  • Provide advice to clients and draft bespoke briefings, informed by sector knowledge and broad intelligence-gathering on policy developments;
  • Develop close client relationships and contribute to the timely delivery of client work on multiple accounts;
  • Participate and contribute in client meetings and internal account management meetings supporting the Head of Sustainability & Trade in reviewing progress, monitoring capacity and allocating tasks.

Management:

  • Work closely with the Head of Head of Sustainability & Trade and Head of Office to build a competitive, best-of-class European trade & sustainability policy team and offer; this can entail coaching of more junior colleagues;
  • Support the implementation of the marketing strategy for the Sustainability and Trade policy practices, working closely with the Hanover Director of Marketing;
  • Regularly contribute with timely and newsworthy blogs to the Hanover website and social media;
  • Expand personal network and, by extension, that of the Hanover Brussels team through event attendance and relationship-building.

Requirements

We are looking for a professional with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience (public affairs consultancy, in-house, trade association, European institutions) and the following skills:

  • Thorough understanding of EU trade and sustainability policy;
  • Knowledge of the interaction between EU, international and national policy and the business impact that this can have on clients;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Effective time-management and ability to meet deadlines, strong organisational and project management skills;
  • Proactive and autonomous attitude;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
  • Recognised ability to bring creative flair and ideas to new business proposals;
  • Very strong team-working, collaboration and interpersonal skills;
  • Appetite to build and expand your network of business, policy and political contacts.
