We are looking for a highly motivated Programme Manager to join our Circular Economy team and help reinforce our engagement in the development of policy and standards to move to a circular economy, mainstream circular business models and make sustainable products the norm.

The position is a one-year contract with a good chance of extension according to performance and continued growth of ECOS.

About ECOS:

ECOS is an international NGO with a network of members and experts advocating for environmentally friendly technical standards, policies and laws. We ensure the environmental voice is heard when they are developed and drive change by providing expertise to policymakers and industry players, leading to the implementation of strong environmental principles. ECOS is headquartered in Brussels and has an exceptional team of 24 staff supported by a network of over 50 technical experts and more than 50-member organisations.

Description of role:

The first part of your ECOS journey will see you working towards the development of robust terminologies, principles and indicators on circular economy, and their integration in environmental finance and corporate social responsibility, covering during the maternity leave of the person responsible for these files. Following this, you will contribute to making high impact sectors such as plastics, textiles, or construction more circular, focusing on product policy and standards. Your exact portfolio will evolve depending on your specialisation & interests and the needs of the organisation.

Your main tasks will be to:

  • Promote environmental interest in the proposal, development and revision of international and European policies and standards in the field of circular economy (indicators, terminology), environmental finance and corporate social responsibility, in cooperation with ECOS nominated experts and member organisations;
  • Select, manage, and oversee technical experts to assist our work;
  • Represent ECOS in relevant meetings, such as meetings of standardisation organisations or European institutions, UN fora, and workshops, conferences and other fora;
  • Engage and collaborate with our members, other NGOs and stakeholders;
  • Develop regular updates, briefings, positions and publications for our target audiences;
  • Prepare funding applications and ensure proper reporting to funders.

Skills and experience required:

  • University degree in environmental sciences, social sciences, or relevant discipline;
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience, including on circular economy;
  • Familiarity with environmental finance or corporate reporting is a plus;
  • Good understanding of EU policy making processes;
  • Interest in technical work and/or standardisation processes;
  • Commitment to the values, vision and mission of environmental NGOs;
  • Strong analytical skills & ability to translate technical information into digestible information;
  • Excellent time and project management skills;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
  • Excellent writing, communication, networking and negotiation skills;
  • Fluent English, other languages an asset.

  • A one-year Belgian contract with a competitive salary package €3.200 - €4.130 according to the ECOS salary scale and depending on skills and relevant experience of the candidate;
